Russ : Real nice looking flies you did . What hook did you use ? If you don't get to fish Atlantics this year you'll need more boxes if you keep tying all winter ( and those Wheatleys get heavier each year it seems ) ..........Frank

Hi Onestonefly : I will have a look around my tying room . I know I did have some brochures from API before I bought my Standard in the late 80's . There may still be some in a drawer ..........Frank

Over the 40 plus years I've tied flies, I've collected a small stable of Frank Matarelli's bobbins. From my perspective, there is no better bobbin than a Matareli one, and that includes all the ones with ceramic parts. The workmanship on Frank's bobbin is superb, just like the workmanship on HMH vises. All the bobbins I have work just fine, no problems with frayed threads from the bobbin tubes. I have far too many to use, I've just collected them from other tiers who, for one reason or another, didn't want them.
So I'm offering them for sale here, at a very reasonable price of only $5 each which includes first-class postage. I have these bobbins for sale: Material Bobbin, 4 curved (used) and 3 new Long-Tube Bobbin, 1 curved (used) Standard-Tube Bobbin, 2 curved (used) and 1 new Midge Bobbin, 1 curved (used)
Let me explain the curved aspect - in a conversation with Frank many years ago, we discussed the idea to gently curve the bobbin's arms so the bobbins fit better in your thread hand. You see the same idea in the curved Tiemco bobbins now. The Material Bobbin is one that Frank made for heavier materials, wires, or flosses. The tube is longer than a Standard Bobbin and made of a heavier material. This bobbin works well for saltwater fly tiers.
A 'used' bobbin is just that, used and gently so and in excellent working condition, no burrs to fray or break thread.
Please let me know by way of an email message if you are interested in any of these bobbins. I can provide pictures to anyone who is interested.

Hi!
Guess this question is aimed at Craig... Would you advise AGAINST offsetting the point (on Mustad 94840's) with the hook held in the jaw?
Thanks, Andy

Hi! Thought some of you may be interested to see these... the first two were tied with ease using the omni jaw (this is entirely useable down to #24), before moving in to micro jaw territory: Grip 14723BL #20: TMC 206BL #24: Mustad C49S #28: TMC 518 #32: Best, Andy

I'm talking about the fly with the black dot eye on the body??? And you like another fly that looks like an Undertaker? As far as casting goes, I have been looking for a place to practice. I found a pond close buy, but I have not had a chance to go over yet. With the water levels the way they are fishing might be off for this year any way. I called a fly shop up at the Forks and the Margaree is very low, and the Gaspe is the same. Our Allagash trip might be off as well. It might be gearing up for a long boring winter.
