Musky Tube Diver

Hey Gang,

I'm experimenting with copper tubes and  Dalhberg style divers.  In addition to the hooking potential of tube flies, I was hoping to add a bit of weight to the fly. The added heft  will hopefully keep this pattern a bit lower in the water on a top water retrieve. The lower it sits in the water the more water it pushes. I was also hoping the copper will help the fly stay in the zone a bit longer on a diving retrieve. The fly was fairly simple to tie on a tube, although I was not able to get the junction tubing into the tube vise converter.  I just added the junction tubing to the fly after taking it out of the vise.

I have yet to cast it. I will be trying it on a 9wt in the next few days and get back to you.

Sorry for the delay ...

The Musky tube diver was tested and the results are as follows. With a bit of practice I was able to cast the fly 30', but it was "chuck and duck" with my 8wt mid-flex. I would recommend a larger, faster rod, 9wt-11wt for this fly. The action of the diver was really great.  It worked like a traditional diver when dressed with Gink, but was much slower to rise (staying in the zone longer). Without Gink it sank very slowly and continued to move forward almost like a clouser minnow, but it would still rise to the surface on it's own then sink back down. It seems perfect for working around structure, weedlines, downed trees etc.
